As we approach April there are big changes on the horizon for vocational training for staff. This means that the free staff NVQs that are fully funded by the government are coming to an end.
If you haven’t already taken advantage of this fantastic government provision then you need to act soon, as time is ticking away. You only have until the 30th April 2017 for staff to be registered onto a course with an approved provider. After this date, it is expected that similar courses could cost around £1000.00.
So, why bother? Well there are lots of reasons especially considering that it’s free:
- Add new skills to your business
- Boost you staff retention
- Give staff more reason to see their employment as a career and not just a job
The range of available NVQ course differs depending on which provider you choose, but to give you an idea, our clients currently have staff completing the following courses:
- Catering and professional chefs
- Hospitality supervision and leadership
- Beverage service
- Food and beverage service
- Food production and cooking
- Food Service
- Front of house (reception)
To be eligible, you and your staff must meet certain criterion. If each criteria is met, you register with a provider, they put in place a three-way agreement between them, you and your staff, and then the qualification gets under way. It’s only takes a small amount of time each week for your staff to complete, on average they last about 12-months, and once completed your staff get a qualification which can be up to level 4, completely free of charge. It really is that simple.
